 Dr. Ara Jil-Agopian is a Board Certified orthodontist with exceptional academic credentials. He received his Bachelor of Science degree, with honors, in Biology from the University of California, Los Angeles. He then went on to graduate 2nd in his class (Top 1%) from the University of Southern California School of Dentistry with a Doctor of Dental Surgery degree, earning Dean’s List Honors every year. While at U.S.C., Dr. Jil-Agopian was awarded merit scholarships from eight different organizations, including the prestigious Dolores Zohrab Liebmann Fellowship. Upon graduating from dental school, Dr. Jil-Agopian was elected into the esteemed Omicron Kappa Upsilon dental honor society which is reserved for only the top 10% of dental school graduates, and received the American College of Prosthodontics Undergraduate Achievement Award. Thereafter, Dr. Jil-Agopian completed his orthodontic residency, earned his specialty Certification in Orthodontics from the highly regarded U.S.C. orthodontic program, and received his Master of Science degree in Craniofacial Biology.
Dr. Jil-Agopian’s experience includes teaching and research. While at U.S.C. Dr. Jil-Agopian was a Problem Based Learning facilitator in multiple study areas for first and second year dental students and a Pre-clinical teaching assistant and tutor in Operative Dentistry, Fixed Prostodontics, Dental Morphology and Function. As an orthodontic resident, Dr. Jil-Agopian was an Orthodontic Clinical Teaching Assistant. He also researched the effects of the Damon Comfort Bracket System, which he currently uses in his practice. His research showed that when compared to traditional braces, orthodontic treatment with the Damon System could be completed with significantly reduced number of appointments.
In addition to his professional accomplishments, Dr. Jil-Agopian is committed to leadership and community service. He has been involved in the following:
- Inglewood Children’s Dental Center - provider of orthodontic care;
- Doctors Out to Care (DOC) program – group leader for a community outreach program, teaching inner city elementary school students proper oral hygiene techniques;
- California Dental Association – Represented U.S.C. School of Dentistry as 1st Delegate at the 2001 CDA House of Delegates;
- Associated Student Body Government - U.S.C. School of Dentistry;
- Armenian Tutorial Project - Volunteer tutor at U.C.L.A. to help and mentor recent immigrant junior-high and high school students

He also enjoys traveling and sports.
